I'm a Cbg 7th grade student at Matoaca Middle School, the year is 2011. Honestly i do not enjoy school, I have a few good teachers yet I have a few that are really just terrible. We have had our math teacher gone and replaced with a substitute for a while now, however our math teacher and the sub are both bad at math, and their jobs. I do enjoy the A.S.E. program that is offered to center based gifted students, this is a very beneficial program to me. At our school Center Based Gifted kids are often bullied, teased, abused for being smart and talented. Then there are PLENTY of cliques within our school. People can lie about it all day long but there are so many that this school is barely even close to what they call "unified". Our music programs are great. Our sports is a mixed bag, Basketball, NUMBER 1!, Soccer not so much. However I can't complain about the extra curricular activities because they are beneficial to students like myself. I can't say all of the CBG kids are qualified for cbg, students can clearly tell who is and who isn't, something the county may want to work on. I'm almost out of characters but cbg kids are bullied all the time, but the staff is blind to it all.

This school is pretty dang awesome... I'm in the CBG program at the East Campus. It's a fairly enjoyable environment, we just sometimes have eighth grade (not cbg) kids busted for drugs and stuff. Overall, i hope this year is going to be just as amazing as last year!

This year at Matoaca Middle (west) is a great year. The teachers are really enjoying their students and everything isn't exactly 'perfect' but its how a school should be. It is very safe because they have all of their proper drills prepared incase of any emergency. They also have a cop that hangs around the school if any certain fights begin and make sure that everyone is ok. The activities there are great. The students get to experience lots of great things by going on field trips. They have separate hallways to split up all of the rowdiness and its also a great chance for the students to make new friends. Probably the worst thing about this year is all of the drama. A lot of that has seemed to be happening this year whether its rumors getting spread around or something that happened at a different year.

I do not think that some of the teachers are living up to their word. they are said to be great teachers of the CBG program but i do not believe that some of them are teaching the cirriculum that is suppose to be taught to the students. The extracurricular activities are good and the principal is less involved than the assistant. The parent involvement for some students is good because of field trips but for others is nothing at all. Matoaca Middle School is an okay learning enviroment but i believe that they need to step up their game a little bit next year and teach the students a little more. some of the teachers are doing fine but others are doing nothing but showing movies and talking about irrelevent subjects.

The teachers at this school are, in my opinion, the best in the county. Now principal leadership, the principle is still fairly involved in the issues, but does not address them all. The extracurricular activities have been slacking but recently have greatly improved to offer a variety, although, this is still not up to par with other schools. Parent involment is(in my opinion) close to Safety. Discipline in this school is very bad and is definently lacking. With TWO policemen in each school (yes there are two schools) I feel safe. Safety is fine, but disipline is horrible. Being a CBG student, I know both sides of the story and can tell you to bring your kids here.

Mataco for the previous two years was a valued asset for my children. However, the needs with regards to special education and implementation of IEP and 504 plans are non-existent. I know several parents who struggle with this. However, children with no challenges seemingly do okay. I will note that since the change there have been quite a few instances of racial misconduct from teachers and students alike. Do I like the old matoaca yes. Do I feel they can grow further? yes.

Seventh-grader waivered in from Salem after the re-districting business. Definitely the right decision. When asked, she states 'I'd never go back'. Staff from top to bottom is highly competent, child-education focused, motivated, approachable and all around great. Happy to have such a group, they are definitely doing some things right.

I think that the middle school is one of the best schools in this Matoaca district. The teachers are pretty much nice. I am glad to live in the little town of Matoaca and I hope that it doesn't change.

I can't believe the student body of this school is being shifted to the old high school. The campus is wonderfull. Some of the teachers may need help but the other staff is great.
